Geriatric Social Workers of Southeast Michigan
St John Macomb Hospital October 15th, 2015
The climate in which pain management is currently practiced has become very adversarial in nature. With opioid overdoses on the rise and the thought that expense prescription opioids on the streets are leading to an increase in use of cheap heroin, it has become extremely difficult to care for patients with chronic and cancer pain. Due to the very nature of the assessment of pain management, millions of chronic pain patients continue to suffer. This interactive workshop will discuss the current climate related to opioid prescribing, the challenges of pain assessment and the shift to multi-modal pain management.
