POLICY FOR ACCOMODATIONS FOR DISABILITIES
 
Under Michigan Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act and the Federal American with Disabilities Act, Geriatric Social Workers of Southeast Michigan has a legal obligation to accommodate a member or guest or prospective members’ disability, unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the organization.  A disabled member or prospective member or guest may allege a violation against an organization regarding a failure to accommodate his or her disability under Michigan law only if the disabled person notified the organization in writing of the need for accommodation within 182 days after the date the disabled person knew or reasonably should have known that an accommodation was needed.
